Connect to the next generation

Several volunteers from our NLC Kids Team had the opportunity to attend a Kids and Youth conference in Chino Hills, California.
"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it."
— Proverbs 22:6
Recently, some of our Kids Ministry volunteers had the incredible opportunity to attend a conference in Chino Hills, California. This gathering served as a powerful reminder of the immense responsibility we have in training up our children in the Lord. In a world full of distractions and competing voices, we are called to be intentional in guiding young hearts toward Jesus.
A beautiful example of this responsibility was shared with me by one of our sweet first graders. She excitedly told me how she talks to her friends about Jesus and heaven. She explained that one of her friends doesn’t go to church and doesn’t know about Jesus—so she tells him all about Him. The sincerity in her voice and the confidence in her faith were both inspiring and convicting.
How often do we, as adults, hesitate to share our faith out of fear, discomfort, or doubt? And yet, here was a child, unafraid and eager to proclaim the truth of the Gospel to her peers. Jesus Himself reminds us in Matthew 18:3 that we must have faith like a child to enter the kingdom of heaven. The faith of our children is not something to be diminished or overlooked—it is something to be encouraged, nurtured, and even learned from.
Children are often the best example of humility and faith. They believe God’s Word simply and wholeheartedly. They trust His promises without hesitation. Their faith is not burdened by doubt or fear but is rooted in the pure joy of knowing Jesus.
May we take this first grader’s example as a challenge to be bold in our own faith. Let us not shy away from opportunities to share the Good News, no matter our age or stage in life. Let’s commit ourselves to training up the next generation, not just by teaching them but by living out our faith in a way that inspires them to do the same.
How does the faith of children inspire you to be bolder in sharing your faith?
In what ways can you help nurture and encourage a child’s faith in your own life?
Are there areas where you need to have more childlike trust in God?
Let’s walk forward in faith, remembering that the next generation is watching and learning from us. May we be faithful in pointing them to Jesus!
