- Pray for Don Braun, Laurel Smith, and others who have lost loved ones. The GriefShare support group meets on Monday evenings at 6:30 in Room 114/115 (English) and Room 111 (Spanish).
- Pray for Brian Willems as he recovers from broken ribs and other injuries received in a recent accident. (If you are interested in providing meals, please contact Norma Froese or Martha Sawatzky.)
- Continue praying for Evelyn Romero, Manuel and Karen Madrid (Manuel is recovering from surgery and anticipating another surgery), and Kristel Salazar's nephew Matthew (still has blood clots) and her friend's stepdad Roger, who is at Sierra View on hospice.
- Pray for Tessa Fiscus and her family as she undergoes chemo; for Eugene Enns as he battles an additional type of cancer, and for others dealing with long-term health issues.
- Also remember: Mae Ewert, Marilyn Chappell and other residents in Palm Village Healthcare, Harold Kruger and others in Sierra View, and Mary Salazar.
- Please pray for Joshua Aquino serving on a fire crew during this fire season. Ask God to protect him, give him strength and wisdom as he serves.
- Pray for those who are seeking employment.
- Pray for the undocumented in our community and those facing food insecurity and financial challenges.
- Pray for our missionaries: Pablo & Maricela Chavez (Peru), Cecil & Tracy Ramos (Thailand), Jonathan & Joanna Gutierrez (Portugal), and Johnny & Denise Esposito (Cambodia).
- Pray for peace as violence and war affect so many families and children around the world.
- Pray for events on the calendar and people connecting with God and each other, and pray for those involved in the budgeting process as we seek to be good stewards and plan for next year.
Gratitude through service
I’m 15 years old, and one of the places I really enjoy serving at New Life is the Home Resource Center.
I first got involved because my mom volunteered me. My cousin and I helped out in the summer, and we both ended up really enjoying it.
One of my favorite things about serving at the Home Resource Center is getting to help bring much needed furniture into people’s homes. I know that I have everything I need, and I’m grateful for what I have. Because of that, it’s a blessing to see other people receive the necessities they need as they move into a new home.
Sometimes there are sad parts to the work, too.
There have been times when we’ve gone to pick up furniture from the home of someone who has passed away. It can be sad knowing why the furniture is being removed, but then I think about where it’s going next. Something that belonged to one person is now able to be given to someone else who really needs it.
I think that makes it special.
When I first started volunteering, I wasn’t really nervous about serving. I was mostly nervous about carrying everything because I didn’t know how heavy some of the stuff was going to be!
But I’ve also gotten to serve with some really great people. I work with Caroline, Joe, Abe, Phyllis, Janice, and Matt, and sometimes I get to work with Dulce and Victor, too. They’re all really nice, fun people, and I enjoy serving alongside them.
I think sometimes people might not volunteer because they don’t know what it will be like or how to get started. But if someone has thought about serving with the Home Resource Center, I would tell them to just talk to Caroline or Phyllis and let them know they’re interested.
It really is a life-changing experience.
For me, serving has helped me recognize how much I have to be grateful for. I get to help people receive things they need, spend time with some great people, and know that even something as simple as carrying furniture can make a difference for someone who is starting out in a new home.
And I’m grateful that I get to be a part of that.
