- Olga Brandt passed away last weekend, just short of her 100th birthday. A celebration service is tentatively planned for October on the date of Olga & Vern's 80th anniversary.
- Continue praying for those who have lost loved ones recently: Veronica Stalis, Ann Isaac, Sharon Allen, and Joanna Brooks.
- Continue praying for those fighting illness or cancer including: Glen Zimmerman, Eugene Enns, and Mike Naylor. Ann Enns is in rehab at Palm Village, Peggy Zimmerman's hand surgery was successful. Remember JR Southard in prayer.
- The death toll from the first earthquakes and recent major aftershocks in Turkiye and Syria is over 45,000. Pray for relief efforts to reach those in need, and for the witness of Christ to shine clearly.
- Pray for our worship ministry staff, Henry Serrato and Stephanie Morales, as they plan and lead our times of worship and grow the worship team. Please remember our Tech/Media team as well. Don Warkentin has been coordinating and training volunteers, and more are needed.
- Pray also for Laurel Smith, the kitchen team and volunteers as they provide Grab & Go meals this Sunday and Thursday evening meals for our Celebrate Recovery ministry. Pray that those who come to receive the meals will recognize the love of God for them in Christ Jesus.
- Pray for First Assembly of God and pastor Kevin Polk. He's new to the church and new to California. Pray as he leads the church into new outreach and growth.
I Hear You
After Sunday's message on marriage, with Bruce & Laurel and Steve & Anatalia providing insights on the Ephesians 5 passage from their own experience, I heard two things. First, I heard gratitude for including the voices of others in Sunday morning messages. You've noticed the way I've been trying to do that more frequently, including Josh & Jessica speaking on parenting this coming Sunday. I'll keep that up.
But second, more than a couple of people asked when I would be speaking about singles. One person even mentioned experiencing difficult feelings during the marriage conversation because of their past and what might be an ongoing single future. I hear you. Ephesians doesn't address singleness, though there are other passages of Scripture that do. I'll be looking toward those in preparation for a message soon.
That brings me to ask you for more input. Please let me know the kind of messages you're wanting and needing to hear.
I regularly seek the Lord for wisdom in preparing messages, just as I do for vision for our body. I also ask the elders for their input. I'm also open to your needs, requests, and interests. Our body is being transformed, which means that each of us are also being transformed by Jesus. Sunday morning messages are one of the ways I can encourage you.
You can comment at the bottom of this blog with your responses, email me at pastor@newlifedinuba.org, or call or catch me at church. Thank you!

- What issues or topics would you want addressed in a Sunday message?
- What would you like more understanding on from the Bible and its stories?
- Where are you looking for help in living out your faith?
- Is there someone you'd like me to invite to speak?
- What are the messages you see as important for building up the body at NLC?

During worship on Sunday mornings I would enjoy, mixed in with modern songs, one or two verses of hymns we sang back in my time, say 50 years ago.
