PRAYER
- Tim Heinrichs remains in the hospital. Pray they can determine the cause of his pain and fever, and that the Lord will encourage and raise him up to full health.
- Continue to pray for Evelyn Romero at the recent passing of her husband, Paulie.
- Pray for health and strength for Emma (Karen Madrid's mother), Connie (Elva Cardona's sister), Carolina Coralles, Lanisha Washington, and Glen Zimmerman.
- Also remember: Doris Siebert and Marilyn Chappell in Palm Village Healthcare, Louie and Michelle Perez, Mary Salazar, and Zach Clemmer.
- Keep the SEARCH TEAM in your prayers (If you haven't already, please update your email and mobile phone with the church office to ensure you get your survey. Paper copies will be available.)
- SOAR is having a great week at NLC! Pray for the youth, adults, and families that they will grow a heart for the mission of the Gospel. They will be working out in the heat on Wednesday (12th) at Open Gate, doing some painting.
- Pray for our missionaries: Pablo & Maricela Chavez in Peru, Cecil & Tracy Ramos in Thailand, Jonathan & Joanna Gutierrez in Portugal, Ruddy & Cristina Ancheta in San Francisco, and Johnny & Denise Esposito in SE Asia.
- Pray for Pastor Mark & Laurie as they head off for vacation with family and begin their retirement after Sunday's celebration service.
- Pray for peace as violence and war affect so many families and children in Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, in the Middle East, and in parts of Africa.
40 Years of Ministry Highlights - #9:
THANK YOU!
Thank you, New Life Community family, for inviting and calling me and Laurie to come here as Lead Pastor/Elder six years ago. I really thought I would never return to pastoring a church once I left in 2006, but God and this church family had other plans! Thank you for listening to the Lord, for being patient with me and Laurie in our decision process, and for trusting me and caring for me as your pastor.
In some ways it feels like I've been the pastor here longer than I actually have. That's not a bad thing, just the reality of the three different periods we've gone through since 2018. (1) I was here 20 months prior to the COVID shutdown. We worshiped in the sanctuary, had two services, and operated pretty much like we've always operated as a church...except for the vision process. (2) Though the pandemic was devastating for many families who lost loved ones, it was also an opportunity to stop doing some of the things we'd always done and to start implementing our vision and innovating to meet the needs of the community. By March, 2022, our community voted New Life Community the Non-Profit of the Year. (3) Coming out of the pandemic we began to look more and more like the church family we envisioned, continuing important transformation ministries in our community. Thank you for sticking together and welcoming new people into this family with me!
Change is hard, and especially so for a church. Thank you for persisting in the hard work of transformation over these six years. In the year 2000, our church celebrated its 75th anniversary with the theme: "Transformed to Reach the 21st Century". Well, that vision has been implemented, not for the sake of a new century but for the sake of the community as it is around us today. Thank you for your courage and sacrifices as well as your willingness to learn new ways of relating to each other. I believe God is glorified at NLC.
My final sermon this coming Sunday will be from Philippians 1:6 "Being confident of this: He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion for the day of Christ Jesus." This transformation has not been one person's work. Though I have strived with you toward our vision, the transformation of our church is evidence that as we reach our 100th anniversary it is God himself who continues to renew us and transform us for his purposes until the day Jesus returns. Thank you for being faithful in keeping at it! I know our elders and leaders have proven themselves faithful to joining God's work among us. I thank God for them and for you, and for the work of the Holy Spirit in bringing new life to us and through us to our community and the world in Christ Jesus.

During the 2020 pandemic I visit Dinuba Mennonite Church. Meeting outside for months I felt the Holy Spirit calling me to join in membership. After four years I am sad to see both of you go. Change is hard but the Lord wants all of us to 'step out of the boat' and walk by faith. Blessings for you both.
