connect through Healing Prayer
James 5:16 Confess your fault's one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. (KJV) The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. (NLT)
As disciples of Jesus, we are called to intercede in prayer for one another. During Jesus' earthly ministry, He compassionately ministered to his disciples and the masses, being available to listen to their problems, showing empathy when people experienced the traumas of life, bringing both physical and spiritual healing to hurting souls, and praying that they would experience the redeeming power of salvation. (Mathew 9:35-36; John 17; 1 Peter 2:24) Christ is our perfect example and we are commanded to pray as He has prayed for us, listen as He listens to us, and ultimately learn to love as he loves, as it says in 1 Thessalonians 4:9-10 "But we don't need to write to you about the importance of loving each other, for God himself has taught you to love one another. Indeed, you already show your love for all the believers throughout Macedonia. Even so, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you to love them even more." Church family, what a wonderful opportunity we have to experience and express this with each other and to a lost world in need of a Savior! We need to seek for ways to show God's love to each other "even more" as Paul the Apostle had said to the Thessalonian believers.
One of the great ways we can do this in a personal way is by compassionately listening to one another so that we can better pray for each other. I want to encourage all of us to proactively seek to be like Jesus. May we be led by the Holy Spirit to be available to others, whether He moves us to text or call someone, invite them out for coffee or a meal, or even open up our homes and invite people over for a time of fellowship--taking time out of our busy schedule to be available to listen and pray for each other. Is there someone that God has specifically put on your heart in whom you can encourage, take time to listen to and pray for? Let us take these beautiful opportunities to "love one another, even more."
