connect through acts of service
Luke 4:18-19 "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed..."
Jesus had read this beautiful passage of Scripture in the synagogue of his hometown which was an OT writing from the book of Isaiah stating that this prophecy was fulfilled through Himself. Our wonderful Savior gives to us the intentions of his heart to share the riches of the Gospel, offer spiritual healing, proclaim freedom to the captives and the oppressed, and provide sight to those who are spiritually blind. As our Perfect Example, He models for us as His followers what our intentions should be as we seek to follow His steps.
We have been exploring spiritual healing these past several weeks. God is showing us through His Word one of the greatest ways that we can experience spiritual healing individually and together as a church family is by following the steps of our Savior. Just as He did through His earthly ministry, we must proactively seek for opportunities to share the Gospel, minister the healing power of God's love to hurting souls, proclaim the spiritual freedom found in His saving grace, and help people to see through the enlightening eyes of Christ.
Every day we have great opportunities before us to bless others through compassionate acts of service, whether it is serving our church family or the people in our community. Although we may each be going through difficulties in our own personal lives, we find that God powerfully works through us and in us when Christ's life is manifested within us. Many times when I am given an opportunity to serve people and minister to their needs, it brings healing to my soul.
What are some great ways that you can compassionately serve others? When you do so you will experience the healing power of God's Word in Acts 20:35 come to life, "...by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"
