Second Week of Advent
Theme: Peace
Isaiah 9:6-7 (NIV)
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever."
The second candle on the Advent wreath is called the “Peace Candle.” Peace is often symbolized as a fence, providing boundaries that safeguard harmony. In the chaos of our lives, particularly in this festive season, we yearn for peace, and we know it is only through the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, that true peace can be found.
The promise in Isaiah speaks of the coming of a child who will establish a Kingdom of peace without end. A child who will tear down the fences of hostility, mend the broken fences of relationships, and provide a fence of lasting peace that surpasses all human comprehension.
As we light the second candle of Advent, let us quiet our minds, still our hearts, and welcome the peace that comes from knowing Christ. Let Him guide us past the fences that divide, into a season of unity, love and peace.
Father, as we light this second candle of Advent, we pray for peace in our hearts, our homes, and our world. Tear down the fences that divide us and guide us into unity and love. As chaos may surround us, help us find peace in Your presence. Amen.
