Lean on God’s Promises When Troubles Come
By Rick Warren
“When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved. After they had gone a long time without food, Paul stood up before them and said: . . . ‘But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed.’”
Acts 27:20-22 (NIV)
When everything in your life is falling apart, you can trust God’s promises.
The apostle Paul and his shipmates were battered by a storm, and it looked like all hope was lost. God had told Paul they would be safe, so he told the others to take courage and trust God. Paul didn’t place his faith in the ship or the captain. Though Paul knew the storm would destroy the boat, he believed that the promises of God would last.
Paul trusted God’s promises as his anchor.
When you are in a storm, do you put your trust in a puny lifeboat? Maybe you think your personality can get you through. Perhaps your looks have always been the key to your success. Are you convinced your money can buy you out of the problem?
Someday, all of those things will perish and let you down. The only safe place to be in the middle of a storm is directly in the center of God’s will. Paul’s shipwreck story has an incredible ending: The ship was destroyed, but the people made it safely to shore. God’s promises always come true.
In the middle of your storm, lean on God’s promises.

This Week at Celebrate Recovery
This week we will take a look at HOPE!
In the first principle, we admitted we were powerless. It is through this admission of our powerlessness that we are able to believe and receive God’s power to help us recover. We do need to be careful, though, not to just cover the bottomless pit of our hurts, hang-ups, and habits with layers of denial or try some quick-fix. Instead, we need to keep those hurts exposed to the light so that through God’s power they can truly heal. Can we heal? YES! It’s not a come once and your healed. Healing is a process and we will start looking at what it takes to heal!
Dinner at 5:30
Large group and lesson at 6:30
