NLC Connect - September 18, 2024

connect with God's Word

We had such a full weekend of ministry this weekend! We started off with our youth group participating in "Living Your Life on Mission" at Butler Church in Fresno. Dulce Gonzalez and Tristan Ringhofer challenged youth to use their gifts for the Kingdom. Joshua Aquino had the opportunity to lead team building games with the youth.
Salt and Light Class began on Sunday, September 15th. They had several members missing but they still have plenty of room for others to join as well! Come and check out the Salt and Light class on Sunday mornings at 8:30 am.
Our 5th and 6th graders had the opportunity to pack 100 MCC school kits on Sunday morning with Judy Brown. Our kids worked hard during VBS to raise money so kids around the world could go to school! Thank you, Judy, for keeping this important missions project in front of us.

  • Pray for our missionaries: Pablo & Maricela Chavez in Peru, Cecil & Tracy Ramos in Thailand, Jonathan & Joanna Gutierrez in Portugal, Ruddy & Cristina Ancheta in San Francisco, and Johnny & Denise Esposito, who are home before returning to SE Asia.
  • Pray for peace as violence and war affect so many families and children in Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, in the Middle East, and in parts of Africa.

Connect to healing through sisterhood

Refreshed, Powerful, Emotional, Healing, Bonding, Sisterhood, Inspirational, Amazing, Hope--these were some of the words that I was given when I asked the ladies what the weekend meant to them in one word.

Twelve ladies from NLC attended the Hartland Women’s Retreat this past weekend. The theme was “Turning Ashes Into Beauty”  It was an amazing weekend filled with laughter, fun activities, deep spiritual worship and teaching and late night conversations.  Our speaker was Sheryl Turner, she brought us four talks on how the deep hardships in life we go through due to our own choices or just because we live in a broken world. God can use to refine us and make us more into his image.  She used several analogies to emphasize this point throughout the weekend.  In one she showed a picture of the Yellowstone wildfires that destroyed hundreds of thousands of acres; it devastated the land. Then she showed pictures of what it looks like today.  The fires, cleaned out all the underbrush, broke open pinecones, the sun was allowed to shine on the forest ashes and out of the ashes grew new seedlings of oaks.  Today the forest floor is covered with new trees.

She gave us many scriptural tools to handle the times we are in the refiner's fire and tools to combat the evil one as we remember the past ashes our life has created. Then she showed us a beautiful mosaic glass stained window and showed us scripturally how when we give our broken pieces of our life to God, He takes EACH BROKEN piece and creates a beautiful, colorful masterpiece to be displayed for His glory.

Here are some comments from the women from NLC and what they took away from the weekend.

“I felt blessed, delivered, set free.  The speaker spoke life into me.”

“I received healing.”

“We received insight and clarity to forgive.”

“I was able to let go of negative labels given to me by my family and exchange them for what God says about me.”

“I was seeing God work in our lives drawing us closer together through forgiveness and compassion.”

“Hearing the stories of the ladies in our small group gave me more freedom to be comfortable with the ladies I came with.”

“This was my first experience in the mountains, I saw butterflies, squirrels, beauty, it was wonderful. I felt accepted and comfortable.”

“The amount of love, compassion and grace I received this weekend helped me forgive past burdens that I was holding onto and allowed me to let go and receive new friendships in their place.”

“Seeing how God turns our ashes into beauty and bringing us closer together.”

We all want to return next year and hope many of you women will join us!
